Joann Sfar is cool

We attended a panel discussion about Graphic Novels with Joann Sfar, Mark Siegel [First Second Books], Jessica Abel, and Andrew Helfer [filling in for Art Spiegelman who, VERY unfortunately, cancelled at the last minute].
Kathy and I were really happy to meet Joann and Mark again. Joann is one of our favorite cartoonists and Mark gets our props for making First Second Books such a great imprint.
After speaking with such an incredibly prolific, insanely talented, and straight-up charming guy like Joann, I look back and laugh at all the asshole artists I've met at conventions who scoffed at my sketch requests. Not only did he draw what I consider instant masterpieces, he truly enjoyed doing it. It's people like him who remind me why comics are fun!
Out of all the sketches he drew for us, this is my favorite:

If you're in the NYC area and wanna meet him, he'll be speaking tomorrow night [Nov. 8, 7 p.m.] at the Center for Jewish History [15 West 16 St.]. Admission is $10, box office: 917-606-8200.
